As an artiste in the entertainment industry especially in Nigeria, you need to understand your target audience and the kind of content you dish out to them if you want to stay relevant.

The Nigerian music industry is one where a lot of artistes focus on dancehall songs and that is because, 80% of the audience prefer a song they can dance to anywhere, anyhow, unlike R&B.

Singer Emma Nyra bared her thoughts on the reasons why it is difficult for artistes to be creative with their contents. According to her, R&B is not much appreciated and that is because people prefer ‘gbangbantigba’ songs. She said, “in our industry, releasing songs in the industry has proven that our target market likes to dance. That’s why you see that some artistes in Nigeria like to release gbangbantigba, because that’s where the money is.

If you want an artiste to change what they are releasing, the target audience, which is our consumer, needs to also appreciate when artiste do R&B, when they do songs that have meaning. If you celebrate musicians that have more contents, the contents will change. Music goes around in a trend and right now, the trend is dancehall music. So until that stops, the contents remains the way it is.”

She made this statement in an interview with HipTv
